What is your situation?

 

First-Year Student Dependent

  1. Fill out an Education Benefits Form, VA 22-1990E form (Dependents using Chapter 33-TOE) or VA 22-5490 form (Dependents using Chapter 35) and submit it to the VA. Online and paper applications are available. For both, online or paper application, make a paper copy of the completed form and bring it in with you to the Veteran Services Center.
    • The recommended and preferred option to fill out the Education Benefits Form is through VONAPP. Click on "Start VONAPP" to get started.
    • The paper application for VA 22-1990E form is here and the paper application for VA 22-5490 form is here. The mailing address for the VA regional office is listed in the form.
  2. After you are accepted and SIR'ed to UCI, you will attend a Student-Parent Orientation Program (SPOP). At this orientation, you will enroll in your courses. Once you enroll, you will be able to start your file with our office. Fill out a Veteran Intake Form (Fillable / Plain) as well as a Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form (Fillable / Plain).
  3. Contact Veteran Services at (949) 824-3500 or veteran@uci.edu to make an appointment to see Ms. Adeli Duron, or schedule a walk-in at any time between regular hours, 9:00am to 5:00pm on Mondays to Fridays. 
  4. Bring in the following forms with you as a packet:
    • Veteran Intake Form 
    • Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form: You must be enrolled in your classes to fill this out and submit all these items together as a packet.
    • Copy of your application from VONAPP or a Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
    • NOTE: For Chapter 33-TOE recipients: If you have not received your COE, we can start the certification process as long as you are enrolled in classes and provide our office with a copy of your completed application form (VA 22-5490 form). We cannot provide you with a Financial Aid award until we receive your COE. As soon as you receive it, submit it to our office.

      If you have your COE, we can provide you a Financial Aid award for your % rating while we wait for the VA to pay the school. If you are required to pay fees by the fee deadline, we will reimburse you once we have the COE on file and UCI receives the payment from the VA.

      For Chapter 35 recipients: We must have a copy of your COE and the sponsor’s Social Security Number before we can process any benefits.

Dependents Transfer Student

  1. If you have used your educational benefits previously, fill out a Change of Program/Place of Training form, VA 22-1995 form (Dependents using Chapter 33-TOE) or VA 22-5495 form (Dependents using Chapter 35), found on VONAPP. Do not use the paper application. Chapter 33 students, print out a copy of the completed VA 22-1995 form.
  3. After you are accepted and SIR’ed to UCI, it is highly recommended you attend a Transfer Success or Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (T-SPOP). All incoming transfer students are required to attend a mandatory academic advising session during summer. During the session you will receive academic advising and enroll in fall quarter courses. The academic school of your major will email you information about the session in June; be sure to sign up and attend by the deadlines specified in that email. Click here for a list of Undergraduate Academic Counseling Offices. Once you enroll, you will be able to start your file with our office. Fill out a Veteran Intake Form (Fillable Plainas well as a Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form (Fillable / Plain).

Chapter 31 (Voc Rehab) Student

  1. After you have SIR'ed, contact your Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. Let them know you will be attending UCI. They will need to send VA Form 28-1905 to Ms. Adeli Duron at aduron@uci.edu at least 45 days before the start of the fall quarter. 
  2. It is highly recommended you attend a Transfer Success or Transfer Student Parent Orientation Program (T-SPOP). Continuing Students Receiving Education Benefits

  1. After registering for classes, fill out a Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form (Fillable / Plain).
  2. Submit your form to the Veteran Services Center. You do not need to make an appointment to submit your form.
    If you are on Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31), your Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form is due by the 1st of the month. There is a Fee Deadline on the 15th of the same month for the upcoming term. If you would like your Tuition and Fees to be covered by the Fee Deadline the form must be received by the 1st of the month. If you submit the form late, it is your responsibility to ensure your tuition and fees are covered by another means before the Fee Deadline while we process your benefits. You will be reimburse at a later time.  
    Special Instructions for Freshman and Sophomores using Post-9/11 GI Bill-TOE: If your enrollment window opens after the 1st of the month, submit a Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form with your anticipated classes before the 1st of the month. This will ensure your Tution and Fees are paid on time. Once your registration window opens and you have enrolled in classes, email veteran@uci.edu to update your schedule. You do not need to fill out another Quarterly Course Enrollment Certification Form.

Dependents and Spouses Using The CalVet Fee Waive

During Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters

    Note: If you qualify for both the CalVet College Fee Waiver and the Chapter 33-TOE, Post-9/11 GI Bill-Transfer of Entitlement, please call Veteran Services at (949) 824-3500 and request to speak to Ms. Adeli Duron for an explanation of how both benefits will be processed.

  1. Plan early. You should try to get your waiver and submit it to the UCI Veteran Services Center at least 14 days before fees are due.
  2. Complete the CalVet College Fee Waiver, click here.
  3. Submit the form at your local County Veterans Service Office. Plan for long wait times at some offices.
  4. After receiving the waiver, submit one copy to the Veteran Services Office and one copy to the Financial Aid Office.
  5. Check your Zot Account and pay any remaining balance before the fee payment deadline. There are a variety of payment methods you may use to pay your fees at UCI, click here for more info.
  6. Waivers are good for one academic year. Do not forget to reapply annually.

During Summer Sessions

Note: The CalVet Fee Waiver is valid during summer for matriculated students only. Incoming freshman or transfer students will not be able to use the waiver for summer. Please contact Veteran Services if there are any questions.

  1. Do not register online for summer school. Print out a Summer Session application. The summer registration fee is not waived.
  2. Note: The waiver covers an entire academic year. The Fall Quarter of last year covers this Summer Session. For example, your waiver for 2013-2014 covers Summer of 2014.
  3. Obtain a copy of your waiver. If you submitted a copy of your waiver to the Veteran Services Center we can make you a copy for your convenience
  4. Submit your waiver at Student Services located in University Extension Building D (Building 234 on the campus map), along with your paper application.
