Counseling Services On and Off Campus

UCI Counseling Center
The Counseling Center is the primary counseling and mental health agency for UC Irvine undergraduate and graduate students. We strive to assist students with their academic success by developing dimensions of well being. The Counseling Center provides short term time limited individual, couples, group and family counseling. The Center also assists students with urgent care and some psychological testing. Psychiatric evaluation and intervention are available on a limited basis for students concurrently seen in therapy. A wide range of workshops and courses related to interpersonal and developmental issues including cross cultural interaction, intimacy and friendships, interpersonal communication, and coping and resiliency are offered annually. In addition, the Counseling Center provides support to the University community through crisis intervention, training regarding mental health issues, and outreach and consultation services. The Center’s services are available and free of charge to currently registered students. Students with chronic and severe mental health issues needing long term and extensive services are referred to other appropriate community providers.

Here at the Counseling Center, we recognize that students face multiple challenges as they balance classes, work, and their personal lives. While we know that there are many ways to get support including accessing family, friend, and cultural/spiritual practices, the Counseling Center is another way that you can get assistance.

VA Mental Health
The VA recognizes that some groups of Veterans have special mental health needs. In response to these needs, VA has developed special programs tailored for these groups and the following website with many resources for all mental health needs.

VA Long Beach Mental Health
The Mental Health Care Group (MHCG) provides comprehensive and integrated mental health services to veterans served by the VA Long Beach Healthcare System (VALBHS).  This includes the Long Beach VA Medical Center and three Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) located in Anaheim, Santa Ana, and at The Villages at Cabrillo.  The Mental HCG's scope of service is within the provision of one level of care throughout the organization. Providing consultation throughout the facility, Mental HCG services are based on the assessment and identified needs of the individual patient. The Mental Health program is interdisciplinary and draws upon the expertise of Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Registered Nurses and other nursing personnel, Pharmacists, Mental Health Technicians, and Rehabilitation Specialists. We also have a well established established Psychology Pre-doctoral Internship Program, as well as a Chronic Pain Management Program.
